On the AIX side there is the colmaint command (-d for dump and -l for
load?) that
generates a text file containing the definitions of the collections. By
default this
file goes into /usr/OV/conf someplace. I use to to take a 'backup' of the
collection
editor in case of mishap. I don't know if this command exists on the NT
platform.
But even if it does not, it might prove helpful.

I know that I can use the GUI editor but if a company wants to migrate lets
say 6000 devices that are in specific communities and collections with
specific snmp settings from Net View for AIX to Net View for NT this create
a lot of work and a very large problem since they have yet to come up with
a
good way to migrate between the platforms. If it is possible to automate
as
much of this with scripts and batch files it makes life a bit easier and
more time to manage other devices and applications. There is not a good
way
to migrate between the two platforms but with the use of ovsnmp.conf a seed
file and a batch file to create the collections that each device falls into
it can cut down on the amount of time it takes to enter each devices
snmp/collection information into Net View.

Benjamin,
Why aren't you using the GUI to create the smartset?

...although it does sound like you may have found a bug
with smartsetutil.

Hi
We have a test Net View for NT box that we have been slowly adding nodes
to.
We have a production Net View 5.1 machine that is AIX. What I am trying to
do is migrate two or three collections from the AIX version of NV to the NT
version. I haven't had any problems with migrating the snmp information by
editing the ovsnmp.conf file and creating a seed file to discover the
devices. The problem is that when I try to create the smartset the
smartsetutil.exe gives me the following error: The instruction at
"0x78002a88"referenced memory at "0x52414d53". the memory could not be
"read".
This happens no matter what I do when I try to create a smartset. Also is
there a file in net View for AIX that defines the collection. If so is
there a similar file in the NT version.

Thanks
Benjamin
