I do this frequently, for example for AS/400s. If the node is snmp-enabled,
you can
modify the entry for that SNMP SysObjectId in the /usr/OV/conf/oid_to_type
file, and
make it a G, for gateway. If it is in there at all it would probably be
blank type, which is
what causes it to be drawn at the segment level along with the non-snmp
nodes. This
change gets it 'promoted' so that it is drawn at the IP Internet level of
the map, along
with the routers.
If it is not SNMP-enabled, I suspect that you are out of luck. You may not
legally
cut or copy from one level of the map to another.
An alternative approach would be to monitor such devices from a Collection.
I believe
that every Netview console should have at least two windows open at all
times:
the IP Internet submap, and the Collections submap. That Collections submap
really
is the biggest bang for your buck, so to speak, in the entire product. I
find endless
uses for it. Just be sure to use the Collection Editor, not cut/paste to
populate it.....

I suspect this is a pretty dumb question, but here goes...
Occasionally I get asked to put a node on the map that is just
a normal node with only one interface, ie a pc or something
that normally gets hidden in the network.
Is there a way to tell netview to put these hosts on the map
the same way as it does for routers? If I cut and paste it
it doesnt really work properly. I suspect I can do this pretty
easily, anyone know how?
