Joe,
The "view" part is in the snmpd configuration file /etc/snmpd.conf (on
AIX). While
there are some overview type introduction of "view" in RFCs, man pages
and
SNMP related books, I found them too brief in content. And in NetView
manuals,
redbooks, I can't find any description on how to configure this entry
and what
does something like "1.17.2" refer to.

Are you using NetView 5.1,
menu item Options --> SNMP Configuration?
