First, be sure the file is named resolv.conf (without the "e" at the end of
resolv). Then, take a look at the resolv.conf file...it should have the DNS
server address and the domain name in it. If not, you can edit it manually,
or, as Leslie indicated, use SMIT/SMITTY to enter the DNS address and domain
under tcp/ip settings, and it will create/modify the /etc/resolv.conf file.

Are you asking how to start using DNS on a system that did not use
it previously? Use smitty tcpip, and fill in the address of the dns and
the domain under minumum, and start using dns under further
configuration. If this has already been set up, there will be a
/etc/resolv.conf file. In that case, perhaps it is being overruled by a
/etc/netsvc.conf that contains "hosts=local". In that case, change it
to hosts=local, bind so it will search the /etc/hosts file first, and then
search dns.
Cordially,

Subject: about DNS
Hi at all.....
I use Netview 5.0 on Aix 4.2.1.
I have a etc\host file with my router's hostname....instead to use this
file, I
want to
use my DNS Server.....on my aix I haven't named daemon operative....
I insert a ip name in my DNS server regarding a router, but If I use demand
pool
on that router , Netview6000 is non able to resolve ip address in ip
name....
How can I do?
thanks!
