A question:
When we issue our nightly demand polls to pick up new device interfaces or
changes, we seem to have hit on an interesting "feature". it seems that the
hostname for the device is changing.
if a device has multiple interfaces, then it seems that the hostname changes to
the dns lookup for the last interface that it finds. for a router with 20
interfaces, this is not good, as the hostname for the router is at the mercy of
those who control dns on those subnets. our router names of "Corerouter" may be
changed to "CoreRouter-0020', or even "barney" if the dns admin didn't cleanup
an old entry.
We are so far unable to get consistency in the router names across our
distributed DNS. is there any way to tell NetView not to change the name? or
to change the name manually later. or to only use the name on interface 0?
I am not speaking of the label on the GUI, but rather the hostname in the topo
DB. we use downloaded ovtopodump db dumps for lots of other automation. also,
when alerts come in and are forwarded to TEC, we have dependencies on the names.
is any way to get the names to "stick"?
