Hi all

We have applications set to send a snmptrap if certain errors are received
i.e. if wwww.exe stops executing then an snmptrap is generated stating that
device XXX has this problem that needs to be attended to.
At present the icon for XXX goes red and the message is sent from Netview
AIX to Netview /GMF & CommandPOST (BMC). If for some reason the link goes
down between GMF and or Commandpost I request Netview/AIX to send status of
all devices in the topology database (resynch) by doing a ovtopodump of
everything in the host table and then I send the status up to Commandpost
and Netview GMF, NOW this is where the problem is ,if I have dumped a
device that been flagged red(down ) by the application and send the status
it will send a GREEN (UP) and close the event that is actually still
outstanding because the application has been unable to change the wording
from Up to Down in the Topology database.

I have tried the script Ralph Schiffinger sent but it did not change the
status in the topology database.

Is there anyway for me to change the status in the topology database or
resynch Commandpost and NetviewOS390/GMF.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Vynita

I meant to answer this question yesterday when Vynita Pretorius asked it.

This mechanism does not update topology. You cannot force that, unless
you
write a program to do it.

The status trap will change the status of the object on the map but not in
the
topology database. We do not allow you to fool netmon in this manner. He
will continue to poll your device and send traps and change the map as per
usual. This mechanism was not provided as a way for you to override what
the
netmon daemon does but to allow an easy way to add your own objects to the
map
and update them. But they are not part of topology.

Perhaps if you explained what you are trying to do, others may be able to
offer
suggestions to help.

Hi All

Please could you assist me with the following issue:

I send through application status i.e. down via snmptrap, on the map it
changes to red (status events), however when I do an ovtopodump it states
that the device is up.

How do I upon receiving a trap update the map colours and the ip Topology
database with the correct status.

We are running Netview /AIX 5.1 , AIX 4.2.1

Many Thanks

Theo
