Hi Chris.
This is correct. The trapd.log file doesn't exist per default in NNM
6. It has been replaced by a binary event store (BES). You can have
pmd maintaining trapd.log, but of course with an overhead.
You could use the tecad_hpov adapter as James suggest. I don't believe
it's supported by Tivoli at this time, but it uses the OVsnmpTrapOpen
API which hasn't changed with NNM 6.

I have little background and no experience, but two things may help:
First, you might have better luck asking this kind of question on the Tivoli
list, where TEC is routinely discussed, rather than the NetView list.
To subscribe, email majordomo@list.isis2000.com

If you just care to search archives, they can be found at
www.integrate-u.com, and click on the Support button or just go to

Second, you may be forced to use the tecad adapter which connects directly with
trapd and forwards events using the CDS file rather than the log file adapter.
You are correct that the log file adapter only works with ASCII files.

Subject: Tivoli / Openview v6 integration
Hello list
Does anyone have any experience of forwarding SNMP events into the TEC by
integrating Tivoli (using the Tivoli Openview logfile adapter) with
Openview version 6.x..? In my understanding the current Tivoli logfile
adapter expects an ASCII log file, which is ok for Openview v4 or v5
(trapd.log=ascii) but NOT ok for Openview v6 (which apparently uses a
database instead of a flat trapd.log file)
Any background or experiences much appreciated -
TIA
Kind Regards.
