On UNIX (currently)... nvsniffer just does a port test.
On NT (currently)... nvsniffer just does a port-test by default, but you
have the option of
putting in a script or DLL that does whatever you want it to (e.g. get a
web-page and
search for a particular text string. If the string "dog" is on the page,
then set it
to "Critical"; if the word "dog" is not on the page, then set it to
"Normal").
On the NT version... you also have the option of using one script (or
port-test) for
discovery (e.g. test port 80), and another for "status" (the above dog
example).
I have no idea when the UNIX version will have the same features as the NT
version.

Subject: nvsniffer question
Greetings. Does the nvsniffer command go into the application or is it just
a TCP port status check. I'm trying to determine if nvsniffer actually
checks the application that is running on the listed port or if it just does
a check to see if something is running on the port.
