Supported? Surely you jest. I don't see how anyone could support a procedure
like this. If your customer gets into trouble with it, he's on his own. I hope
he takes a backup every time he does this, because no one in Support s going to
be able to fix his database if this procedure goes bad -- and that's why it
would not be supported.
I think that he seems to get away with it because he is not using a new name,
but copying his information to default, and the mapinfo.pag and mapinfo.dir
files already know where default is. But I think it would fail if he used
a new name. But that's just a guess and I am certainly not going to play with
this to see.
As far as a command line way to do this, there is none, of course. Even from
the GUI you cannot copy one map into another. You can only make a new copy.

Subject: Map copies ?
Hello,
Is there any way to create map copies without having to start the NetView GUI,
open that map to be copied, and do a "File -> Save As" ?
Right now, a customer of us is doing the following to create map copies :
- detects which is the latest map
- copy the map files the following way :
cp -R /usr/OV/databases/openview/mapdb/map_to_copy/current/*
/usr/OV/databases/openview/mapdb/default/current
Apparently this is working, i.e. whenever we open the GUI with the "new" default
map, we see the content of the "map_to_copy" map.
But what about consistency of all related files (like mapinfo.pag and
mapinfo.dir) ?
Is this operation supported by Tivoli support ? If not, what is the supported
one ?
Any info welcomed !
