| I don't know if it has been made already, but It would be very interesting if
someone can post information about the new features that will be present in
NV6.

You may want to wait to do this until you have V6.
One of the new features in V6 is called "Location sensitive Topology". It
allows you to build a file (locations.conf) which specifies what IP address
ranges go into which locations, and you can nest them, with location A being
an
element under location B. Then when netmon does discovery, he will see to it
that that is how the map is built. Of course, you might have to clear your
databases and rediscover until you get the map the way you want it, but the
benefit is obvious. Your basic customization is safe and reproducible.
As for wteuiap6, that's redbook code and I think the developers are long gone.
As far as how NetView builds maps, you would have to start with the
Programmer's
Guide and the Programmer's Reference. There are long discussions in there
about
  callbacks for cut and paste.

Subject: Howto "Cut and Paste" thru ovw API
  Dear Netviewers,
The network I'm in charge of is rather complicated to display with the
  standard way netview does.
So I intend to customize it with containers (Location), but our company is
composed of tens of offices and I can't afford spending time to customize it
  by hand.
I'd prefer writing a procedure that reorganizes all the IP Internet submap
working with router and network names as input.
I had the idea to base this procedure on the wteuiap6 application developped
by ITSO guys, so I installed it. I did some testing to "emulate" the Cut and
Paste actions that have to be used thru the netview gui to do the job, but
it appears that wteuiap6 is not doing all that is done thru the gui (the
  connection are not handled).
I was wondering if someone can explain step by step, how NetView does the
job so that I can have a look in the source of wteuiap6 and try to add
what's needed to make it work as I'd like to.
  Thanks
  Olivier
