When the symbol is generic it means either that SNMP is not responding on that
box or the type is missing from the oid-to-type file. I'd bet on the former to
start with. Try an snmpwalk of the devices and see what you get back. If snp
is not running on those boxes, start it, and make sure the community name is
"public" or that you have it configured in xnmsnmpconf correctly.

Subject: Netview discovers 2212
´s in status unknown
Hi all,
We have a couple of IBM 2212 routers in the network, and Netview discovers then
with Status: Unknown, and Symbol Type: Computer Generic.
This means that I only get a blue square on the map where I expected a green
router symbol.
I have deleted the objects, and they were rediscovered in exactly the same
state.
We also have IBM 2216 routers, and have no problems discovering them properly.
Does anybody know what I can do to solve this problem?
Thanks
