The subnet collections is a powerful function that I suspect is underused.
If you are in the Collection Editor, you see the default type if
collections, which
is 'Attribute'. It is on a button at the top of the dialog. If you switch
that,
you have a choice of other types - object list, other collections, and
subnet. You can make a collection of nodes on a given subnet by
specifying the subnet. This is powerful because nodes do not have
an attribute of IP Address, as interfaces do, and this gives you a way to
refer to nodes by address, sort-of, in a dynamic fashion.

Cordially,

Thanks for the advice.

I am puzzled by the "Subnet Type" collection. I could find no reference
to this kind of collection. Do you perhaps mean a collection created by
using the "isSubnet" attribute, instead of the "list of networks" that I'm
using? Or is there something I'm missing?

I've actually re-thought my approach to this, instead of monitoring for
the Network being down, I'm going to monitor routers and router interfaces
instead. The "Network Up" event may not show up depending on the status
of underlying devices. My principal interest is in the connectivity to
the network, so I think this might be the better approach.

Thanks for your help- it's much appreciated.
