Is there someone with in SMARTS or some place that I can retrieve the SMARTS
supported routers, hubs and switches by vendor and model? It appears that there
are limitations to who's equipment is actually supported in the SMARTS tools
set.

Hi ,

I saw you on OV/NV Forum . If you use OpenView/NetView/Tivoli etc.., you
will absolutely love what we do. OEM'd by Tivoli, extremely close to the
people at Cisco. When you see what SMARTS does, it's pretty amazing. We have
the REFERENCES to back it up.

SMARTS is a leader in the field of Event Correlation and Root Cause to
pinpoint the one point of failure in your entire Enterprisewide Network
including all the layer 2 devices including VLANS, STP, etc.., The
technology is that amazing and is patented. We have an OEM agreement with
IBM/Tivoli and work very closely with Cisco Systems.

Feel free to call The Meta Group, IDC Group, Gartner Group, Data
Communications Magazine where SMARTS won the 1998 Product of the Year Award.
They all know who we are very well.

You know how difficult it is to manage a switched and routed mission
critical network and the systems supported by it. Network infrastructures
are growing more dependent on virtual topologies (i.e. VLAN or STP) that
introduce additional management challenges to already highly complex
physical topologies. We at System Management ARTS have found that our
clients were having difficulties automating the management of their
sophisticated systems because:

Ø Problems can start in any network, system, or application element
Ø Symptoms rapidly spread to related networks, systems, and applications
Ø Massive amounts of overlapping symptoms make it difficult to pinpoint root
cause and identify all of its impacts

Suppose you could:
http://www.cio.com/archive/021500_percent.html
Accurately pinpoint the root cause of critical failures even in situations
where only partial symptom data exists

Better avoid downtime and periods of poor performance

Speed problem resolution by reducing the number of alarms generated up to
80%

Provide a current view of the status on vital IT assets, through continual
monitoring

Cross correlate, "End to End Correlation" from your networks( including all
LAYER II topology)
to your systems, to your applications, all "Out of the Box" without
having to manually maintain the correlation system even as your topology
changes.

Provide problem diagnosis information to first-tier operators in a
meaningful manner, without requiring them to be experts

Reduce operational costs by eliminating development and maintenance costs
for management software

Achieve rapid deployment of management infrastructure

Insulate operations staff from the need to learn how new devices operate, by
relying on the automated problem diagnosis in management software

System Management ARTS InCharge family of connectivity management
applications ensures the real time availability and performance of global IT
infrastructures for prestigious organizations such as: AT&T,SIAC, Andersen
Consulting, Bear Stearns, EDS, Federal Express, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs,DLJ
Direct,
IBM, Marriott, MCI/Worldcom,Ameritrade, Sprint, Staples, Viacom and
Weyerhauser.

Instead of taking my word for InCharge
Æs performance, here are some things
our clients and industry analysts are saying:

ôIn the 30 days since we
Æve deployed InCharge, we
Æve seen an 80% reduction
in the number of event alarms generated, and the fast and accurate problem
diagnosis and impact analysis the product provides has proven to be
invaluable in streamlining processes and improving productivity of the
entire network operations team.
ö Stephen Benson, Principal Analyst for
Staples, Inc., February 2000
ôSMARTS is solving the most difficult service level management problem by
instantly diagnosing the root cause problems that hurt the business if not
immediately resolved. And SMARTS applications adapt to changing conditions
without needing attention from administrators. This is a combination that
no one can match.
ö John McConnell, McConnell Associates

The point is not SMARTS vs Micromuse (NetCool) or HP(OpenView), or
Cabletron(Spectrum) or IBM'(NetView),or Tivoli(TEC), CA'-Unicenter(TNG)
etc.., for they serve a very different purpose in your environment for
consolidation, filtering, presentation and therefore are total compliments
to SMARTS and are very worthwhile collaboration technologies.

Again, that is why these companies do work together with SMARTS(Tivoli/OEM
Agreement). While SMARTS InCHARGE can do all these things as well, we will
compliment these technologies if they are already in place and allow you to
leverage our bread and butter "Codebook Correlator" to make these front ends
you have already invested time and money into: in memory, real time answers
to the one and only root cause of a problem that has created a multitude of
propagated symptoms throughout your enterprise, instantly. 80% of your time
is finding the problem, 20% is fixing it. Think about it.

The huge difference between InCHARGE and "Codebook Correlation" when stacked
up against "ANY" Rules based technology is that with rules you are
inevitably tied to your ever changing topology and the maintaining of that
topology by a human being. Endless if, then, else rules. The patents we
hold run for 20 years so I don't think we are in any danger of being
replaced in the market ! That is why we were named one of the top 10
emerging network technology companies for year 2000 and beyond in one of the
articles in the ZIP file below.

We'd welcome the opportunity to spend some time with you to determine
if SMARTS InCharge technology would help you support your organization
Æs
business critical operations. For additional information on our patented
codebook correlation technology and company background please visit the
SMARTS web site at http://www.smarts.com or e-mail me directly at
davidc@smarts.com. I will follow up with a call later this week to
introduce myself and set up an appointment at your convenience for further
evaluation of our product line.
