OSA is IBM's Open System Adapter (or something to that effect). I believe it
comes in several flavors (Token-Ring, Enet, etc...). If you're wanting to
use NetView/6000 and SNMP, you just need to make sure the OS on the
Mainframe supports and is configured for SNMP. If SNMP is supported in the
OS you're running just configure the community strings and trap destination
and you should be all set. You may need to load enterprise specific MIBs in
NetView to get the most out of this.

Don't know what an OSA interface is, but you can do a lot of 390 monitoring
if
you get the SNA Manager/6000 product from IBM. This means you add a card to
your RS/6000 ansd install AIX Com Server to get SNA support, and your RISC
box
becomes an LU6.2 to your SNA network. Your IBM rep can get you details.

Hello All.

We have several S/390 IBM Mainframe systems.
They each have an OSA interface and, of course, they have been given an IP
address on our network.

We would like to be able to manage these Mainframes via NetView (V5.2 on AIX
4.3.2).

Currently, all we are doing is monitoring the up/down status of the OSA
interfaces. Is there more we can do? Is anyone out there monitoring a
mainframe with OSA interfaces. Can SNMP be installed/binded to the OSA??
etc...

Any info appreciated.

Sincerely,

Gord Michaels.
