Ah. I assume this to be the case on every single Netview I install. The
first discovery is wide open. I manage out manually, or with an unlimited
seedfile, and let it find everything. I then analyze what it found by
dumping the topology database (ovtopodump -rl) and using little
awk scripts to parse out all of the different kinds of nodes found. From
that, depending on how bad the customers addressing scheme is,
and which devices they want to keep, we make a new seedfile. Since
I don't know any languages that I can awk in on NT, I tend to make
Smartsets and use nvdbformat or nvUtil to dump out the contents into
reports that I can use to make the new seedfile. Flush and rediscover
using the seedfile, and maintain it from there on out, if necessary.

Thanks for the response, I assume that you are discovering the nodes only
in the
seed file. The problem that I have is the customer is unsure what he has
out on
his network, so I wanted to Netview to dynamically discover what is out
there,
but not worry about the Windows machines and non-snmp devices.

Cheers

There is a seed file on NT in usr\ov\conf\netmon. I am using it the way you
want to (routers switches, hubs only) You can edit it using notepad, or in
Netview select options ---> discovery and the edit button.
hope this helps
