Hi Laurens,
I have the UCD agent V4.2 with Solaris 2.7 and NetView 6.0.1. I also
have MLM installed. I compiled my UCD agent with AgentX support (second
time around - first time I just took all the defaults). I cannot get
NetView to use this UCD agent - it starts up the Solaris agent and uses
that. If you stop the Solaris agent and just leave the UCD running, I
can't get any demand polls to be answered. mgragentd seems to be
running with no errors in mgragentd.log (in fact all the daemons are
running.....)

midmand.log for the MLM also seems to have bad community name errors and
although midmand itself is running, I don't think it makes any contact
with UCD.

Do you know what protocol the Solaris SEA agent uses for subagents??? I
have crawled through all the Sun documentation I can find and it is very
coy about the agent / sub-agent architecture - is it their own? AgentX?
smux?

Any other input on making NetView and MLM work on Solaris with the UCD
agent - it's SO much better than SEA (disk monitoring, process
monitoring, load average, memory monitoring all built in - AND it obeys
it's authentication instructions (ie if you tell it not to respond to a
community name of public, it doesn't) ).

I know this configuration won't be supported officially, James, but if
you have any general comments on the underlying architectures, they
would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Jane

Jane,
we have installed the UCD agent on SUN(solaris 2.7 NetView 5.1.2)
because
the MIB2 support of SEA is not very extensive.
The only problem we have is during installation of NetView: the UCD
agent
complains about not present MIBs.
This is probably caused by the stop/start cmds to the snmp daemons by
the
NetView install process.
After a reboot everything works OK.
