Some years ago, installing a second netview (it was V5) for development on the net lead one of our 7500 to 100% cpu (99% on IP SNMP) which prevent it to its primary job : packet forwarding. Even serial console access was blocked. It immediately stopped after netview shutdown. So be careful to your polling interval config and how many manager you run. I think V6 is handling discovery thru CDP first, V5 did it on arp cache only which needs more SNMP accesses. Normally this high CPU load corresponds with the Configuration polling Interval. Set number of route entries to 50 or 100. There's been a lot of discussion about this topic last year, you may look up the archives. You may debug snmp on the cisco-router to see which mib values are transferred, but it will probably crash the router... I poll just 1 time a minute to recive just one MIB value (CPUbusy) to check the CPU usage of the router. Nearly periodically every half houre the CPU usage go up to 70%. Once or twice a day the CPU usage go up to 99% - 100% for 1 houre. in this time, the router shows me 85% of CPU usage go to IP SNMP Process. Its a CISCO 2500 with IOS 11.3 Is it possible that NetView with one Request a minute is resonsible for this??? I cant belive. But ther is no other machine using SNMP to acces the router. And the SNMP process thakes 85% of CPU. I check the interfaces for SNMP trafic. It is close to zero. What can I do???? _________________________________________________________________________ NV-L List information and Archives: http://www.tkg.com/nv-l _________________________________________________________________________ NV-L List information and Archives: http://www.tkg.com/nv-l Some years ago, installing a second netview (it was V5) for development on the net lead one of our 7500 to 100% cpu (99% on IP SNMP) which prevent it to its primary job : packet forwarding.
