Before you use a ruleset, you must get the pager working from the command
line. See the man page on the nvpage command.
The syntax is "nvpage <pin_number@carrier> <text> " so you have to get
the nv.carriers file right.
In addition to the nv.carriers file there is also an nvpager.conf file
which must be correct. Your pager company must also support one of the
protocols in nvpaging.protocols. Have a look at those files in
/usr/OV/conf. I thought there was stuff about how to do this in the
NetView Admin Guide.
Support assists people with this all the time so you can give them a call
for personal assistance.

Subject: [NV-L] Using an NV ruleset to send an alpha-numeric message via
analog m odem.
Has anyone on the list had any experience using NetView to send a
text message to an alpha-numeric pager via analog modem?
We have a solaris 2.7 system with a USR56k modem attached via serial port.
We've verified connectivity with the 'tip' command. However,
I myself am unsure how to go about configuring NetView to call the pagers #
and send a text message. We have, in /usr/OV/conf, a file named
nv.carriers
which contain the configuration for the pagers that we could potentially
send events to. There is a ruleset configured to access one of the
carriers from that file.
At any rate, if anyone has any experience with this, any suggestions,
comments, or advice is most welcome.
thanks,
