Hi Claudio.
Here's my humble opinion on RFI and Event Suppression.
I did some testing with (BIG) -K 1 and (LITTLE) -k 2 settings. We noticed
reduced CPU utilization on one of our hub frame relay routers with this
setting.
NetView did not attempt to ping or config poll (?) or demand poll (?) those
downed devices beyond the hub router or the hub router. See "Reduced Polling
to Routers" in the Release Notes.
I like the reduced Control Desk/Event Viewer activity. When you have a UNIX
X-Windows server try to update 20 NetView map displays with streaming
events, it really tasks the CPU. The event suppression feature is an
excellent way to allevaite that situation.
My users did not like the WHITE unreachable color on the map for down
networks. They like the GREEN as up or RED as down association. However, I
believe we will eventually employ RFI because of our CPU limitations on the
X-Windows server.
Perhaps a better word than effective would be efficient, such as in
efficient use of network bandwidth.
