I think you made a mistake here , should it not be : tar -cvf oldmap.tar
/usr/OV/databases/openview

Yes, you can port the map from your old system to the new one, in most
cases.
Make a tar file of the databases:
      tar -xvf oldmap.tar /usr/OV/databases/openview
Move that file over to the new system, and restore it. Use pax to restore
it, because
Netview uses the sparse filesystem, and if you use tar to restore it, it
will be very
very large.
  pax -rp e -f oldmap.tar
Do this as root, with all daemons stopped.

Restart the daemons. You will also have to do a
  mapadmin -h <hostname>
on the new system.

Next you should open an map and delete and rediscover your new Netview
system. This usually works ok. If the address of the new system is very far
away from the old system, you might still have problems, and be forced to
rediscover. You may want to rediscover eventually just to clean out any old
corruption in the database.

There are ways to make seedfiles from the contents of the existing
database,
and the new location.conf file processing can help ease the work of the
re-customization.

I need an information. I have a network with 35000 objects, 1000 are
routers, an "old" Netview 5.1 (no seed file) on AIX 4.3.2 and a very
custom designed maps of the network.
I have installed another system with Netview 6.02 on AIX 4.3.3, I would
like not to lose the maps but to bring in full her on the new system. Is
possible to import the maps from the old Netview ?
Sorry for the poor english.
Thanks
