Very impressive, Don, and thanks for sharing. I'll pass this one along to
the TIPN guy.
Any time you need a reference, just let me know. I'll be glad to write one
for you!

Subject: RE: [NV-L] TIPN across TMRs

James,
Thanks for the reply. I tried the NetView patch, but that did not help.
It really sounded logical to me too! However, I think I have solved my
problem.
Here are the gory details for those that are interested.... :)

When I attempt the install of the TIPN Framework patch outside my NetView
TMR I get an error.
After studying the log, it seems that the TIPN framework patch tests for
the
presence of a NetViewInventoryProfile.
If it does not exist it attempts to create it with the initpres command.
The initpres command is failing because the path to the TIPN goodies that
it
just installed is incomplete.
I copied the initpres command to a file and executed it.
It also failed when I executed it manually.
The fix was to put $DBDIR in front of each reference to TMF/TIPN/....
Rerun the command manually and the reinstall the patch (worked fine)

Here is the working initpres command if anyone is interested.....

initpres NetViewInventoryProfile -pres-name -create dialog nvinv_props
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/nvinv_props.d dialog add_dialog
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/add_dialog.d dialog edit_dialog
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/edit_dialog.d bitmap nvinv_icon xpm
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/nvinv_icon.xpm bitmap locked xpm
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/locked.xpm bitmap fixed xpm
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/fixed.xpm state normal
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/nvinv_icon.d xpm
$DBDIR/TMF/TIPN/nvinv_icon.xpm parent TableMgrGuiDlgs

I am guessing that it is related to FW3.7 since I have never heard of any
problems like this before.
I have opened a PMR for this.

I've asked around here and the view is that this is just like installing a
NetView client. You have to have the NetView Framework Patch on any TMR
which is going to have the TIPN Framework Patch because it depends on
NetView being present.

Subject: [NV-L] TIPN across TMRs

Hello fellow NetView experts,

I am attempting to install TIPN in an environment with several (many) TMRs.
NetView, TEC, TDS, Inventory, etc are all in their own TRMs.
Will TIPN work across TMRs (outside of NetView's own TMR) ?
I am having difficulty installing the TIPN Framework Patch on machines that
are not in NetView's TMR.
The install complains about not finding a "NetViewInventoryProfile".
The regions are 2-way linked, but that does not seem to help.

Has anyone successfully implemented TIPN in a similar configuration?

Thanks,
