value_info.pag is only part of a database. It is just the data portion of
the object database, and because it is a sparse filesystem you have to copy
the value_ifo dir with it, which is how you access records in it anyway,
as it is a keyed index. So you need a utility to copy them both at the
same time. Besides, since NetView has three interconnected databases,
object, topology, and map, you cannot make a useful backup with just one.
Our advice on backups, which is all over this list if you wish to search
it, is that you tar up the entire /usr/OV/databases/openview directory as a
unit. If you have to restore, you would use pax to undo the tar and
preserve the sparse structure. Do a search and I sure you will find many
people who listed their backup procedures in detail.

To reduce your value_info.page size you should run the nvTurboDatabase
utility. There are many postings here on this subject as well. My advice
is that you review them and them ask questions if you still have them. I
think you will be much more comfortable with what you are doing once you
understand how it all fits together.

Hope this helps

Subject: [NV-L] Netview database

Good day all

Is there someone that could please advise.

One of my Netview database files, namely value_info.pag is in excess of 2
Gb in size. I am unable to copy this file for backup purposes. During the
copy I get a an error " ........../current/value_info.pag: Error 0"

Has this got anything to do with the size of the file ? and is there
perhaps a way around this problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Netview 6.0.1
AIX 4.3.3

Many thanks
Roy
