Thanks Leslie,
I setup the standalone but it will not accept my
id and password. Does Standalone use a different ID and Password then whats
in usr/OV/www/conf/Realms.prp???

Dave, we did run the Ciscoworks integration there. Look in
/usr/OV/symbols/C and see if the Cisco symbols are in files,
or in a lower directory. Possibly that is the problem. Gareth,
does that mean that the solution is to move those symbol
files up one level?

The instructions for running the application are hard to ferret
out of the release notes. What you need to do is this:

Download (via binary ftp) this file from the Netview server:
/usr/OV/www/htdocs/download/nvwc_win32_jre_1_1_8_swing_1_1_1.zip
Unzip it with something that understands long file names. It will
make a directory 'nvwc' below where you unzip it. To run it,
you need to open a dos windown, cd into ~nvwc/bin, and then
execute the bat file passing it the name or address of the netview
server. You can edit it and add that in if you like. I thought we did this
when I was there last. It does run faster than the web version.

Most seem to find the Stand-alone Java Web Client more reliable. You should
find the instructions for its configuration in the NetView v6.0 Release
Notes.

As for your problem, I have seen this sort of issue when symbol files are
missing. Or if you have grouped all cisco symbol files say and placed them
in their own directory so the web client can no longer find them. How about
the permissions on the symbols directory - has it changed lately for some
reason ? There may well be other reasons for your problem but check these,
especially if you are using Nways or Ciscoworks and have additional symbols
on your map.

Thanks Leslie,
I am running the browser and I downloaded the
Java 1.1.3-5. I am running Netscape 4.6.. I restarted Netscape and
verified that the cache is set for EVERY TIME and the cache memory is
5000KBytes. Disk Cache is 7680KBytes. I cleared Memory Cache and Disk
Cache. I restarted the Web Client and received the same symtoms. When
attempted to Acknowledge a device it does not respond. When I attempt to
drill down it hangs and I have to use Task manager to end the session. When
starting the Client I view the Java Console receive Connect to: Netview
Server
and when I open the Submap Explore I receive Opening
http://netviewserver:8080/netview/Ovwdb no proxy and receive the same
message when drilling down into the IP Internet Map (Don't know if that's
normal or not).. What is the difference between the browser and the
standalone and which is better? Where can I find procedures for the
Standalone? Thanks, Dave

Dave, are you using the browser, or are you using the standalone
application?
If it is the browser, be sure you have configured the browser to update
'every time'.
I think that is under the 'internet files' in the browser options. Between
attempts
(eg when you restart the webserver) also clear the cache - memory and disk
-
on the browser. And for the plugin, don't forget to do that configuration
step
where you set the startup option. Also increase the size of the cache from
the
default by a multiple of 10 at least.

If you have remembered to do all of this, all I can think of is the plugin
version.
I think you were using the 1.1.3-4 plugin. I see that there is now a
1.1.3-5 version
out there. You might try that. Anyone else having problems with 1.1.3-4 or
1.1.3-5?
Or is everyone still using the 1.1.3 base version?

Anyone else?

Subject: [NV-L] Web Client Performance

Hi all,
I am running AIX 4.3.3 - 6.02 - My network operation center uses
the Web Client to monitor the network and it is hanging up. When selecting
a smartset or a collection basket from the IP Internet Map it just sets
there and will not allow you to do anything more. We end up having to
terminate the session via task manager. Also, I attempted to ACKNOWLEDGE a
device but it did not change the color. I stopped and start the Webserver
deamon with no change in results. Any idea's???? Thanks, Dave
