Dave, by default it pings each interface. Some nodes are polled via
SNMP, and for those nodes, all interfaces on the nodes are polled via
SNMP. Those cases are:
1) the addresses in your seedfile that start with'$'
2) nodes of a certain OID that have a P flag in the
file /usr/OV/conf/oid_to_type (eg maybe AIX boxes were
set up that way at your site)
3) Routers on which Netview found unnumbered serial interfaces
You can tell which way a node is being polled by checking the
output of a demanpoll.
What is it that is bothering you? Firewall stuff?
Cordially,
Leslie A. Clark

Hi All,
I need to understand how netview knows how an interface is down
on a network device. Does netview ping every interface or does it ping the
learned IP and then snmpget for the status of the rest of the interfaces?
Thanks, Dave
