If you have multiple networks with overlapping IP addresses then, yes,
you have a problem. IBM's solution is to introduce CNAT (Comprehensive
Network Address Translation). This is IBM hardware and software that
translates overlapping IP address ranges into unique ones, including the
content of SNMP packets. So, for example, if you have 3 private
networks all using network 10, you would use CNAT to map the first into,
say, network 1, the second network 10 into, say, network 2 and leave the
third network 10.
Integration with NetView includes a CNAT menu on your NetView menu bar
and the ability to discover and configure CNAT systems. NetView can
also show you both the private network 10 address for a node, and the
address it is mapped in to.
