Why are you running such a back-level version?
You are just asking for trouble by running into problems which are
already fixed.

The value_info.pag file is the heart of your NetView database. It will
always be large. And it is normal that it grow when you are doing
discovery. However, there were problems in earlier releases which often
made it grow even larger than it needed to be. But there is no way to
tell just by looking at it. The best way to deal with it is to run the
nvTurboDatabase utilities shipped with the product to squeeze the extra
space out of it periodically. The recommended command if your databases
have grown too large is
        /usr/OV/service/nvTurboDatabase space
However, there are APARs fixed in 6.0.1. and 6.0.2 for some minor problems
encountered with the tool. In particular some kinds of objects cannot be
deleted even with ovwdbdmap, and not all the database files are compressed
with nvTurboDatabase which should be, but these are minor in comparison to
your problem. But if you had 6.0.2 or later you'd at least be confident
that running nvTurboDatabase will not involve other problems.

In the latest version of NetView (7.1) running nvTurboDatabase is done
for you automatically.

Hello,

Netview 6.0.0
AIX 4.3.3

Does someone know what is the use of the value_info.pag file.

We try to tar the Netview databases like the support recommand by the
command tar -cvf <YourFileName.tar /usr/OV/databases/openview
in an other file system of 50 Mb the tar stopped with lack of free space.

The size of the folder whith the command du -k

du -k /usr/OV/databases
4 /usr/OV/databases/C5
4 /usr/OV/databases/openview/defmap
2864 /usr/OV/databases/openview/mapdb/default/current
2876 /usr/OV/databases/openview/mapdb/default
2888 /usr/OV/databases/openview/mapdb
7136 /usr/OV/databases/openview/ovwdb/current
7140 /usr/OV/databases/openview/ovwdb
992 /usr/OV/databases/openview/topo
11028 /usr/OV/databases/openview
4 /usr/OV/databases/snmpCollect
11040 /usr/OV/databases

but int the folder /usr/OV/databases/openview/ovwdb/current we can see
that the file value_info.pag is 1,3Gb

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root system 1333747712 Mar 22 16:23 value_info.pag

Is it normal?

This file is file is updated every minutes, is it the normal behavior?

Cordialement.
