For us the decision is not made, but we are in the same process. Just for Netview maintnance it cost 35K$ for 395 interfaces. We don't have TEC, at the time of our Tivoli implementation TEC was too expensive. We really think to make the switch. At that time it was going to cost us around $75k for a second Netview license for Solaris with 8k interfaces. We purchased Openview NNM with unlimited nodes for $14k... we made the choice because of available resources at the time. -----Original Message----- From: pgeiger@us.ibm.com [mailto:pgeiger@us.ibm.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 23, 2002 6:28 AM To: DSullinger@dot.state.az.us Cc: nv-l@lists.tivoli.com Subject: RE: [nv-l] NetView vs. OpenView Hmmm....That is surprising, with the new license structure NetView should have been an extremely inexpensive solution for you. If you purchase TEC (at a very small minimum), you get unlimited use of NetView for no additional cost. And of course you then have the option of using TEC as well for additional event management capabilities. We currently are running Netview, but we just purchased OpenView... Reason? Cost... As simple as that. We needed an extra license for Netview and the cost was based on how many interfaces we wanted to manage. After reviewing this, it was to cost prohibitive. Openview had a enterprise license that covered as many nodes, interfaces and devices we needed to manage. After 3 years of use, I'm somewhat comfortable with Netview, but it really came down to available resources... Openview was less than half the cost, we really didn't have a choice. They both worked about the same... It was a hard decision to make, but we just couldn't afford to lay out what Netview wanted for an additional license during these economic times. -----Original Message----- From: netview@toddh.net [mailto:netview@toddh.net] Sent: Friday, July 19, 2002 12:54 PM To: IMHOFF,MICHAEL (HP-Denmark,ex1) Cc: 'Eric Pobst'; nv-l@lists.tivoli.com Subject: Re: [nv-l] NetView vs. OpenView "IMHOFF,MICHAEL (HP-Denmark,ex1)" <michael_imhoff@hp.com> writes: > You can't compare NetView with OpenView. I'm curious how it compares now that Tivoli has released the IBM Tivoli Switch Analyzer product. -- Todd H. http://www.toddh.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: nv-l-unsubscribe@lists.tivoli.com For additional commands, e-mail: nv-l-help@lists.tivoli.com *NOTE* This is not an Offical Tivoli Support forum.
