Hello Terry.
In my experience, I ran the R/W map as root for years. I occasionally
encountered problems after database cleanup jobs or addition of new symbols,
submaps, etc. I think we have relatively complicated maps. I was able to
recover in EVERY case by simply restoring /usr/OV/databases directory
contents.
I currently send the R/W map to an "Operator" who has limited Menu access
but full editing access because of NetView security. I have had one
corrupted database issue since then. Nightly backups of the application have
saved me though. Check the new 7.1.x feature of "hot backup".
I hope this helps you.

Subject: [nv-l] Running NetView GIU as Root cause MAP DB problems
Hi All,
Is there anyone out there who have experienced this problem: When running
the NetView GIU as root causes corruption on the map database.
Any ideas? We are running NetView 7.1.2 on Solaris 8.
