Hi Kent,
I would like to share the posting on the list so everyone else can benefit.

I don't exactly move data from snmpCollect databases into RRD. I tried that once but it was too time consuming.  What I did was customized a new trap whose automatic action was to call an rrdtool update with the trap's value.  Then I had snmpCollect do my collections and call the trap everytime it collected data from the MIB. (I did this by having the threshold lower than the rearm value).

So, everytime the data collector traps, it writes it to the corresponding rrd.  I then have my own front end cgi script create the graphs for our reports.  Just make sure you have your heartbeat 2 or 3 times your step if  you are going to collect many MIB instances.  (thanks Alfred R.)

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Chaz

Hi Chaz,

I read your append to the NetView mailing list:

I was hoping you might be able to share your mechanisms for moving the data from the NetView snmpCollect db into a RRD db?  What  front end to the RRD db do you use?

I currently use Cricket to collect data and present web graphs etc.  I have shied away from using snmpCollect in the past, but now have a situation where using it to do the data collection coupled with the rollup features of RRD would be very useful.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Regards,
              Kent
