[nv-l] MLM as an SNMP Proxy - is it possible?

Has anyone implemented MLM such that the MLM does the configuration polling of nodes?
I don't know if this can be done, but I thought I would ask the question anyway.

I would like to run some daemon on my MLM box that forwards SNMP (demand and config polls) to the appropriate nodes and then returns the reply, transparent to netmon.

The only way I can think of to make this work is to configure an SNMP proxy on the MLM.
I have looked at gated and routed but they don't seem to be the answer.
I want to be able to :
1. Check the "Use Proxy" box in snmp configuration.
2. Use the MLM as the proxy for certain devices.
3. Have the MLM forward the requests to the appropriate nodes and return the results (all transparent to netmon).
 
Has anyone tackled this?
This is needed to monitor switches, routers and servers behind a Gauntlet (proxy) firewall (one manager only)
I want to be able to failover to another NetView server without changing the IP Address and hostname when a failover is required.
