Read the 7.1 release notes about NETVIEWD on page 15. Running the NetViewd daemon activates the mapping support without opening the GUI. When netviewd is added to the startup file it will start when the other service daemons start. It works the same way on Unix allowing for the differences in host operating system.

Hi,

What do people do to address the requirement that the native client
application has to be running on the NetView server? I've thought of a
few options:

- Manually login each time the server is bounced, start application
(does it matter which user this runs as?)
- Set up AutoAdminLogon and put a shortcut in the Startup folder (or
the Run key etc.)
- Run the application as a service with something like SRVANY (haven't
tested this)

I don't know a lot about NetView, but I'd love to know why the native
client needs to be running on the server. Something about making maps
available to web clients? How does this work on unix-based
implementations? Just another process?

Cheers,
Dale
