Laszlo,
Are you using -dconsole when you start your map?
If so, and you have the permissions set correctly, and you are either
the owner, or belong to the group assigned to the maps, you should get the R/W
map if

IT IS NOT ALREADY OPEN BY ANOTHER USER

I have had the problems with permissions and ownership being set
incorrectly, but once they were fixed I have never seen the problem you
described, the R/W map was there, but somebody else had started a map before me
and got the R/W because they were in the same group, qualifying for access to
the R/W map. First person to open a map that qualifies for R/W gets the
read/write map.
Try looking in the /usr/OV/tmp directory for an explore_nnnnn file, the
one with a size of 26 bytes is owned by the R/W map process. The process id is
the nnnnn on the end of the file name, just do a "ps -ef | grep nnnnn" and you
should see all the processes and figure out what user ("who") has the R/W.

I'm sure it is there somewhere, good luck,
                Bill

Subject: [nv-l] read only maps

Hi,

We are running NV 7.1.3 on Solaris. Somehow our map has been changed to
read-only. I tried everything including copying the map on a new name but
after a few days of use the new map became read-only as well. I tried to run
ovwperms to give full rwx permission for everyone but it does not help. Our
default map is still read write so the support company suggested to recreate
our map from the default, but it is a lot of work which I would like to
avoid.

Do you have any idea how can I change our map back to RW?

Thank you
Laszlo Pal
