Anyone know if errpt and NetView's trapgend still work the same with
AIX 5.1 / 5.2?
Cheers,
Jane

Blaine,
I actually have it set up to forward from errpt to syslog - there is a
change that needs to be made within errpt to enable this. If you are
interested e-mail me and I will try to find the tools to do it.

AIX comes with a very good HW and SW monitor -- errpt (forget the official
name). However, the log file (errlog) is not ASCII. You need to tweak it
before picking up by logfile adapter. Do a search "errpt" on Tivoli support
web site. You should be able to find the documentation to set it up. As for
Solaris, SUN has some tools to do the monitoring. Some errors will also
show in syslog. Or parse the output of "prtdiag".
Hope this helps.

[NV, DM] UNIX hardware monitoring
Please respond to tme10
Good day Tivoliers,
We (ESM) are having a discussion with the UNIX team as to what tool(s) to
use for monitoring the hardware on these platforms. We have both SUN and
AIX, but the UNIX team has told us that SNMP is useless for this task. Is
this true? Up to this point, it hasn't been an issues for us, but it's
coming to the forefront so it needs to be addressed.
Any input would be most appreciated. Please respond directly as well as to
the list since I only get the digest. Thanks in advance.
Peace,
Blane Robertson
