Dominic,
Both files are restricting snmp access exclusively to a single IP Address.
I am assuming that your production NetView is 172.20.4.69 and pre-production is 172.26.14.14. Correct?
This configuration allows NetView to use public to talk to the local snmp agent on each box. But not to each other.
On the pre-production box, the snmpd.conf is allowing snmp querys from 172.26.14.14 only - using public.
On the production box, the snmpd.conf is allowing snmp querys from 172.20.4.69 only - using public.

My guess is that these 2 NetViews are trying to poll each other.
Your snmpd.conf files on both machines are prohibiting that, and the agent is complaining (auth failures).

If so, you will need to add this line to pre-production:
community       public 172.20.4.69 255.255.255.255

and this line to production:
community       public 172.26.14.14 255.255.255.255

"public" is not a good choice for your community name!

If you change the community name on the agent, you must also configure NetView to use that name for polling.

invalid commu nity name: xxxx

Hi all

I setup a new pre-prod server with a /usr/OV.back.V7R1 directory migration
from my server in production. The installation was fine but right now my
netview of production seem to have difficulty to live together with my
netview of pre-production for the community name

In both log file of snmpd.log (production and pre-prod) i got, each time
both netview server are up and running THIS ERROR :

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
04/17/03 10:07:32 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
public
04/17/03 10:07:34 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
public
04/17/03 10:07:36 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
public
04/17/03 11:09:41 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
xxxxxx
04/17/03 11:10:29 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
xxxxxx
04/17/03 11:10:32 EXCEPTIONS: authentication error: invalid community name:
xxxxxx
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------

Do i need to setup something special in the file /etc/snmpd.conf for each
server (production and pre-production) ?

i send to you both snmpd.conf of 2 servers, may be it can help...

 <<pre-production.txt>>  <<production.txt>>

Thanks in advance
