I have never seen a process get a signal 14, or SIGALRM, so I have no idea
what causes it. But my guess is that nvserverd exits because he's not
expecting to see it. His signal handler would not be coded to ignore such
a thing. You should be able to restart him immediately however with just
ovstart.

Hi all

Here is some more info regarding this problem.
It happens mostly when we open maps i.e. ovw -map abc
I don't have a tecint.conf file
and in /usr/OV/PD/nvserverd there is nothing

object manager name: nvserverd
 behavior: OVs_WELL_BEHAVED
 state: NOT_RUNNING
 PID: 31570
 last message: Initialization complete.
exit status: exited on signal 14

Thanks
Vynita

Who can tell from your description?
Does ovstatus show a last message? Is there a core dump for it in
/usr/OV/PD/cores/nvserverd?
If you are not forwarding to TEC then make sure there is no
/usr/OV/conf/tecint.conf file present. Most of the cores I have seen
involved configuration problems associated with having such a file.

If none of this helps, I'd suggest that you call Support, but my guess is

that they will request that you get current, with 7.1.3 Fixpack1 rather
than trying to debug something old.

Hi All

I have just put in version 7.1.2 on aix 4.3.3 not an upgrade.

The nvserverd deamon keeps failing and needs to be restarted. I am not
forwarding alerts to TEC.

What is causing nvserved to keep failing?

Thanks
Vynita
