With MRTG you could monitor the interface of your PC, cable modem, Unix box, or whatever and that should give you the number you are after.

Yeah that's true, but that's total throughput on the circuit.  For instance you can have several people transferring continuous data back and forth on a T1 and still only half of the circuit could be utilized.

[nv-l] Monitoring Throughput

Does anyone know a tool that can monitor throughput?  The only way I can think of measuring throughput would be manually FTPing a file.  Is there a tool out there that can do this automatically?  I was thinking of using a Speed Test website, but that would measure throughput between my sources and the internet.
