I think you will find the detail of the answer is partly dependent on whether you have NV 7.1.3 Fixpack 1 installed as there was a slight change. The basic answer should be that the hostname slot of a NetView event contains whatever NetView resolved the problem node to be, using DNS or /etc/hosts.

I know I've been on this soap-box before, but if you start off with EVERYTHING using fully-qualified domain names, then you are future-proof as far as naming goes and rules processing / script writing can be consistent.

The change with FP01 is documented as follows:

The origin field of the an event sent to TEC by the internal TEC adapter in nvserverd will always contain the IP address of the NetView machine. The adapter_host field will contain either the fully-qualified domain name of the NetView machine or that same IP Address as the origin field. Shortnames will no longer be used for the adapter host field in order to facilitate event responses and forwarding at the TEC server.

I guess the answer is that if your NetView uses DNS and thus generates events with fully-qualified domain names, you will need to do some munging somewhere if your TEC expects short names.
Cheers,
Jane

I am trying to get .com extension removed from a hostname from an incoming
Netview event. Can I influence that behavior at Netview or will I need to do
some TEC processing?

My real purpose is so that I can leave my Maintenance Mode integration in
place without recoding a bunch of stuff on both the Netview and Tivoli side
of things.

I few things to check and do -

1. increase the debug level on the proxy endpoint to level 3. This will
help you understand the possible cause of the problem. Most of the
installation errors are logged in the lcfd.log of the proxy.

2. make sure that the machines (proxy and new endpoint) are in the same
domain

3. it looks like you are using a domain account to do the installation. If
that assumption is correct, then make sure this account has Administrative
access to both boxes (part of the local Administrators group)

Hi All,

I am trying to use winstlcf from a Windows 2000 TMR server to install a
Windows 2000 endpoint. The command keeps failing with the following error:
LCF Install failed for the following machines: (see lcfhost.err)

The command that I ran is as follows:

winstlcf -g zativ02+9494 -N zativ01 'za054071 w9\tivoli password`

Does anybody know whether there is a trick to this command? Is there
perhaps another syntax that works?

Thank you
