Scott,
The answer always is....it depends. The main dependency is: are all
the nodes in that subnet SNMP enabled? The second is: will your DNS
have the updates in it when the routes change?
Not SNMP enabled nodes -- NetView will not discover the adapter changes on
nodes from the non-SNMP nodes themselves. It will discover the changed
adapters via an ARP table from the router or some other SNMP enabled
device. If your DNS is also updated, then those interfaces will show up
in the old nodes as a second interface.
SNMP enabled nodes -- NetView should discover that the interface has a new
IP address...and that the old interface is gone.
Suggestion:
If you can schedule NetView administration to work at the same time your
Network Engineering is making there changes, things may go smoother.
1. Unmanage the nodes (single interface) that will be affected plus the
interfaces on routers that will be affected.
2. Once the routers have been updated, demandpoll the routers. You should
see the subnets added to the NetView map. Manage any interfaces you need
to and do a demandpoll to verify that the old interface IP addresses are
gone.
3. As they get the non-router SNMP enabled nodes reconfigured, verify you
can ping the new address... and that DNS has been updated. Manage the
node (if you had previously unmanaged it) Then do a demandpoll on those
nodes and you should see them move to the new IP address.
note: the reason for unmanaging the intefaces/nodes earlier is to keep
false downs from happening and confusing admins or operators during the
move.

NetView 7.1.3 AIX 4.3.3
Our Network Engineering Team is getting ready to change the subnet mask and
default route for one of our networks and I was wondering what I am going
to
see in NetView when this happens.
Since every box in that subnet is going to have the adapter reconfigured
for
the new subnet mask and default route what will NetView show for these
nodes?
If the node has a single adapter, will NetView show that node as down and
then rediscover it with the new interface information or will it simply
update the object with the new information?
If the node has more than one interface and the other interface is on
another network will NetView delete the interface that changes and add a
new
interface with the new configuration?
