The answer is: this is how NetView is suppose to work, be very careful about changing the settings. I would recommend you guys don't start changing a lot of this or you will be very confused. A router always has multiple symbols throughout the submaps. The symbols DO represent different items based on where you are. Think of each submap as a 'view' of your network with a context related to it. So if you are looking at subnet1 and see the symbol for router1 in that submap, then you will be seeing the status of router1 WITHIN the context of subnet1. i.e. the interface of the router in subnet1. The Internet submap is a special submap that gives you the big picture, i.e. the symbol represents the entire device and the status is compound of all interface statuses. If you start messing with the compound vs symbol status of symbols in network or subnet submaps, then you will give yourself a very difficult view to manage from. When you see 'router1' as marginal, if you are on the Internet submap, you will see the routers and the subnets it is connected to. If you drill into router1 you will see the interface that has a problem and you can work on debugging it. Having router1 yellow in a submap for subnet1 but green in subnet2 will tell the operator that the interface in subnet1 for router1 has a reachability problem, but it is not the case for the interface in subnet2. This helps you move forward with problem determination. If router1 went yellow in every submap, you would have a harder time finding where the problem was.
Steve Your question below: When displayed from its Map container, its status color is yellow. When clicking on the "Green Color" subnet connected to Router1, its status color is green When clicking on the Unreachable subnet connected to Routers1, its status color is red.
Q1: Any Ideas? Q2: If this is the fact that thes status color representation when clicking on the subnet is related to the status of the Router1 interface linked to that subnet, why display the entire router instead of displaying just the interface?
