I have been told that NetView supports instance "numbers" that are not numbers 
(i.e. strings). Is it interpreting the instance as an expression because of 
this? that would be a show stopper for me.

Hi Scott,
Looking at your sample bang file, the last entry, BRES_WINNI01, looks 
like an expression to me - I'd expect a numeric instance otherwise.  If 
this really is an expression that you have collected data for, then the 
second line I think should be EXPRESSION, not INTEGER.
