Thread-topic: [nv-l] Symbol size (Windows platform) 7.1.4

Don,

This particular project that we are working on is on Windows platform, I don’t believe that it works the same as Unix.

Thank you for your input.

Herman

Herman,

My experience (on Unix) is that is just the way it works.

When you unhide objects, they are placed in the new object holding area. No other option.

In answer to your question about making the symbols smaller.....

I really don't recommend this, but...

Here's what I would do on Unix if I did not want large symbols, I'm not sure what he equivalent steps are on the Windows platform.

Go to the /usr/OV/bitmaps/C directory and start moving the *.50.* files to a different directory.

Then run ovw -config to recompile the bitmaps without the 50x50 pixel size images.

Close/Re-open your R/W map and see what you get.  If they are still too big, do the same with the *.44.* and perhaps the *.38.* files too.

I do not recommend that you delete them, you may want them back.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Don Davis

We have created a map of the US and placed objects on the map.  When we toggle "show or hide
unknown, normal, etc", the objects go back to the "new object" field.  How do we manually place
the objects on a sub-map and have their position preserved after the afore mentioned process?

They will always all be the same size as each other, and they will get bigger when the screen is bigger. There is some control over how big they should get, at least on Unix, in /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw.

I believe that Netview is a poor way to teach geography, however, and for most customers, the US background map represents a real waste of space on the glass. What I do is this:
Name the location icons for the states or regions
Bring up the US map background
Arrange things relatively close to where they belong
Remove the background map
Move the icons around so they are evenly spaced but their labels don't overlap.

This way operators have a relative idea of where to look, but you don't waste a lot of space.
East is still east, and west is still west.

Cordially,

I'm trying to create locations/containers to fit in the USA map  but some states are smaller where the symbol overlaps to another state.

Is there a way to make the symbol(s) smaller?

Thanks,

Herman E. Caballero
