My two cents -
I think your plan is very, very risky. No one on our NetView Verification
teams does anything like this using the Framework; they are required to go
by the book, so there is probably no one who can say for certain whether
this plan will work, nor would they be able to advise you if it fails.
NetView might function on the new box after this, but I'll wager that it
will never be properly configured to the Framework, which does not take
kindly to being fooled. You might never again be able to install or
de-install NetView or its maintenance using the Framework.
If you are going to do a Framework install, then that is exactly what you
should do, in my opinion. And you should use the opportunity to get on
7.1.4 since 7.1.3 is at the end of its life. The next FixPack for it will
be the final one.
I'd do it like this.
First, create your /usr/OV.back.v7r1 directory on your old server with
the serversetup "Backup Selective Data" function, which will harvest your
databases, including maps, and customizations.
Tar up and move this directory structure to the new server and then untar
it. Keep this tar file in case you have problems.
You should then remove /usr/OV.back.v7r1/conf/ovors (on the new system) as
this eliminates the need for reset_ci.
Then you can do a migrate/upgrade install of 7.1.4 (on the new system)
which will merge all your customizations into the new system. You now
have a new system customized like your old one, and the Framework is very
happy.
Finally, apply the latest FixPack to 7.1.4. FP02 is readily available.
FP03 will be shipping next week. You are now up to date with all the
current fixes.
You could do the same thing with 7.1.3 of course, but part of the virtue of
going to a new system is that you get to upgrade with little effort. If
you don't do it now, then you'll just have to do this all over again in a
year or so.
I'm not sure why you think you'd need to copy /etc/snmpd.conf over, unless
you have made serious modifications to it. But if so, then you should do
that BEFORE installing NetView so you can make certain that snmpd is
running. And remember that with AIX 5.2 you must make certain that you
are running the SNMP v1 agent by doing snmpv3_ssw -1, or netmon will not
connect to him.

[nv-l] Backup/Restore Netview from
03/31/2005 09:54 one server to another server...
AM
Please respond to
nv-l
Hello All,
we need to move our netview application (aix 5.2 with netview 7.1.3 fixpack
1) to another server (the old server will be removed) and i need to
validate
the procedure i will doing :
Both server are in the same subnet.
1- Close netview
2- Do a entire nvbackup of /usr/OV and also of the file /etc/snmpd.conf
3- Restore the backup to the new server
4- Do a reset_ci
5- Modify the "wlookup -ar NetViewServer" data (i don't know how) and also
the /usr/OV/conf/NetViewServerOID file (of the restored server)
Now, what happen to the old Netview :
a- if i do a wlsinst -ah the old netview should be there, do i only need to
do a "wrmnode" to delete it from Tivoli database ?
b- If the restored netview to the new server work, do i need that netview
be
registed in the wlsinst command or it is not madatory ?
thanks
