I'm coming into the tail end of this but it sounds like you're asking if there is a way of creating a new map from the command prompt on Windows. There is :

netview -map <new_name>

This is the same as on NetView for UNIX.  If the <new_name> you choose already exists, it will attempt to open that map when the GUI launches (will not recreate it). If a map with the name  <new_name> does not already exist, a new map gets created. This is a great way of resolving a problem where the GUI won't open an existing map or looks to have hung while trying (map database corruption of some sort) as a new map database gets created from an existing object/topology database......though you'd want a location.conf if you wanted to avoid having to re-customise your map layout.

Once you have the GUI open with a new map, delete the old maps, including what use to be the "default" map, then re-name the current map as "default".

Cheers,

Gareth

Re: [NV-L] Regenrating Default MAP

On Windows, what executes in the background from the File menu is a bunch
of  C++ routines which are part of the NetView GUI itself.  If there is an
external command which you could enter to regenerate the map outside the
GUI, I'm afraid I don't know what that is.  I don't work on this area of
the product.

I tried to put myself in your shoes on two different machines, opening the
default map, then pulling down File and deleting it, while it was still
open.  In each case, I was asked if I really wanted to delete the default
map, and when I clicked "OK'", the GUI did the delete, and immediately
created another default map in front of my eyes, so I have no idea why this
did not work for you.

Perhaps some other user has already seen this problem and has a solution,
but I do not.  The only external way I know of to get a new map is to use
serversetup to clear the databases and let discovery proceed all over
again.  If you choose that route, let's hope you have a good seed file.
If you don't want to do this, then you'll have to contact Support and hope
that they have a solution I haven't seen.

In the future, you might take periodic backups of
\usr\ov\databases\openview as a precaution.
