It sounds to me like everyone is saying that it ought to work just fine. I've installed Netview (not 7.1.5 yet) using x emulation on my laptop to access a headless server. Everyone does this. I don't understand what the caveats are about. Cordially, Leslie A. By default the installation does require an exported X-Windows display (for the copyright message and OK dialog box). However a new install flag was added in 7.1.5 to suppress all pop-ups (thus making it a silent install from the perspective of X-window). Sounds like you just need to use this new flag, -q, when using the instalnv script. Cheers, Gareth
Mark, Thanks for your response. I'm doing this from a Windows XP machine, Hummingbird Exceed for the X-window protocol, telnet session, and running export DISPLAY for any gui data. Our NOC runs Netview this way from a laptop and it has worked great for many years. I'm concerned specifically with using this approach to do the upgrade. Is there a portion of the upgrade that requires the gui display, or is there a problem running the installation files from any directory on the box rather than from the CD as per the installation guide procedure? Thanks! Eric Zoeckler

We do it all the time from a remote Unix/Linux desktop to the NetView server, using ssh or a telnet session. Mark F Sklenarik , CTFL IBM SWG Tivoli Solutions , Software Quality Engineer
