My guess is that it went down because X died.

Example:
striplett@ch1li040:~> xterm
X connection to localhost:16.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
[1]-  Done                    xterm
[2]+  Done                    xterm
striplett@ch1li040:~>


You get this when the X emulator is not running at the address that you have exported your display to. In my case, I just shut down hummingbird on my PC.

The rest of that noise is mostly due, I think, to being a non-root user. The permissions on /usr/OV/log probably don't allow the creation of some logs. Not involved in the problem, anyway.

nv6000? I thought everyone had switched to "netview" by now.

If ovw is dying you need to call IBM Support for NetView.

And I'm completely baffled by all those messages -- I thought we'd fixed all those "cannot convert" messages on AIX long ago.
What level of NetView are you running and on what level of AIX?
