When dragging things on the map, you use ctrl-middlemousebutton. In the Edit..Add Object dialog, however, first select a shape from the top row, then drag a symbol from the bottom row of the dialog and drop it on the map. This drag, however, uses just the left mouse button, I think. It is not ctrl-MMB, anyway,

Now if you are going to get into cutting and pasting, be aware that there are a lot of ways to mess up your database. The manual describes all sorts of cutting and pasting that you can do. But in real life, you should only ever be doing one basic thing. That is, add a location symbol in the IP Internet Topology, and cut router symbols and network symbols and paste them inside the new location submap. Once you have done that, you can add more location symbols inside other location symbols.

When you cut, cut 'From This Submap' - never 'From All'. If you paste something and it shows up with a shadow, you did it wrong.  And no Copying. And no cutting or pasting in the Smartset topology.

Take a database backup. See the man page for nvhotbackup.

So have fun, don't get hurt, and don't say I did not warn you.

Cordially,
