When you say remove old objects and data, I assume you mean things that are red on the map and have been decomissioned? You have to remove them from the map manually first (Edit... Delete Object... From ALL Submaps). If you have more than one map (the default map is called 'default'), you have to open each of them and delete it from them. There is also a Node Down Delete interval that defaults to 7 days, at which time they will be removed automatically. Interfaces are different. If an interface is removed from a device, it will usually be removed from Netview automatically on the daily configuration poll or demandpoll. If you want to delete a node that is up, however, you need to revise the seedfile to prevent its rediscovery, then delete it. You cannot delete an interface from a router if it is really configured on the router. It will come back. So once you have done your deletes, what housekeeping should you do to reconcile the different Netview databases? The ovtopofix reconciles the topology database with the object database. It only requires netmon to be stopped, I usually recommend this activity be done weekly: Close maps. ovstop netmon ovtopofix -a (or -A if you are using multiple maps and want them to be different) ovmapcount -a ovmapcount -b ovstart netmon Restart the map, let it synchronize, and follow any instructions that were given as output of ovmapcount -b. Then take a backup using nvhotbackup. Cordially, Leslie A. Clark IT Services Specialist, Network Mgmt Information Technology Services Americas IBM Global Services (248) 552-4968 Voicemail, Fax, Pager
