I'm as puzzled as you are, Don. Most of our AIX test systems don't configure syslog because as a rule, NetView does not write to it.
I cannot find this message nor any calls to syslog in the code that makes up ovw_binary. In fact I cannot find a message with the words "automatically archived" in it anywhere in NetView code.
So far as I know, the only ovw_binary error log would be the ipmap.log and we don't do anything to manage it.
You can try exporting IPMAP_DETAILED_TRACE=1 and see whether anything interesting is written to it. You could also configure nettl tracing and logging for OVW and OVEXTERNAL (just turn everything on) and see whether nettl shows you something interesting.
But my searches of the code base have come up empty on this.
Offhand, I'd say we are not writing that message.

Has anyone seen these messages in syslog on the NetView server?

This is being continuously logged.
I don't see anything in /usr/OV/log/netview_xxxx.log and there are no cores in PD.
Nothing significant is being written to nettl.LOG00
