NetView Version 5 offers the '!' operator which can be used in a seedfile
to mean "do not discover this" hostname or ip address. V4 has no such
option. You can check the dynatext books that ship with your version to
learn about what is and what is not supported in your seed file. You can
restrict discovery in all versions by adding an invalid range as the last
entry (like 3.3.3.* for example). This will halt new node discovery except
for what you have already discovered and the other valid entries you have
included in the seed file.

No. The only easy thing is not to discover the objects in the first place.
Seven maps is a lot of maps to maintain if you are still actively
discovering a lot of new objects. But you don't always have to remove
objects you don't want to see on a map. You could just hide them.

Netview?

Yes, there are two big ones (as well as only discover what you intend to
manage).
1. There are database enhancements mentioned in U451880 but which did not
ship with the product. You can get them
by calling Support and you will be told how to ftp them now. Or you can
wait for the next PTF U453385.
2. You can install a secondary or "cache" nameserver on your NetView box to
eliminate name resolution delays. If you don't know how to do this, AIX
Support should be able to provide you with instructions.

Good luck.

Hi all

We have a large network and our Netview for AIX is battling to keep up.
The operations team don't want me to delete their maps and do a rediscover
,
however
they are auto discovering everything.

On the OVforum in place of a seed file to select what device you want to
discover
they are able to specify all the devices they don't want discovered, with
'netmon.noDiscover'
Does Netview have something like this ?

We have 7 maps and to get the devices out of the database I have to delete
them from every
map, Is there an easy way of cleaning up the database?

Are there any suggestions on how we can improve the performance of Netview?

The other problem is when we do a locate by attribute (ip address) the
screen extends to request
the ip address , we see the screen get larger however the block to enter
the
IP address is not visable,
The only way is to physically move the window to another location and then
the entire locate window
become available, Why is this happening, and what can we do to resolve it?

Thanks
Vynita P
