The Locate function from the map is slow, period. It requires a complete
read of the database. The bigger your database, the slower it is. Locate
by submap is the slowest of all because of the way the map database is
structured. You may not like it, Bob, but the code is working correctly.

But that is not Vynita's problem. She says that the sub-menus are not
being drawn correctly on her screen and she has to move the panel to see it
all. That is an X11 problem and most likely she needs X maintenance from
AIX. Or if she is using an emulator also, then she needs to talk to her
emulator vendor.

Hi

I too am experiencing the same problem with respect to the locate attribute
panel getting hung up. It does eventually complete painting the panel after
about 5 minutes or so. I am running AIX 4.2 and NetView V5. I am also
x-windowing via EXCEED. ...any comments??

Hi all

If you have already received this I apologise, I am resending because I
received a message not deliverable.

We have a large network and our Netview for AIX is battling to keep up. The
operations team don't want me to delete their maps and do a rediscover ,
however they are auto discovering everything.

On the OVforum in place of a seed file to select what device you want to
discover
they are able to specify all the devices they don't want discovered, with
'netmon.noDiscover'
Does Netview have something like this ?

We have 7 maps and to get the devices out of the database I have to delete
them from every map, Is there an easy way of cleaning up the database?

Are there any suggestions on how we can improve the performance of Netview?

The other problem is when we do a locate by attribute (ip address) the
screen extends to request
the ip address , we see the screen get larger however the block to enter
the
IP address is not visable,
The only way is to physically move the window to another location and then
the entire locate window becomes available, Why is this happening, and what
can we do to resolve it?

Thanks
Vynita P
